FOUNDERS DAy
![]()
Our Founders Day
event this year was a great success
even though we had very few
invited guests show up. The weather could not have been better. Clear blue skies
with a light wind blowing right down the runway made for perfect flying
conditions. As near as I can count from the pictures I took , we had over forty
models on display and many were flown! Everything from electric park flyers,
pattern ships, ducted fans, twin engine, giant scale and even a TV camera plane
was flown. The parking lot was full and automobiles were even parked down the
entrance road.

This is some of the models displayed on the left side of the field.

This shot shows most of the models as seen from the rear right corner of the field. In the forground is the top of Jay's giant aeromaster. The #16 is Don Kohlman's new Shoestring. It's beautiful and very light. Joe Lupton's delta wing Enforcer ducted fan is on the left. John Ziegler's OV-10 is top right.

This is another view of the right side. A few of the models are Julian Harris' scale Cub, Jay's giant Aeromaster bipe, Bill Hamby's 40% Giles 202, and in the upper right, Eddie's large Cub.

This is Carl Nettles and his Bob Palmer designed Mars. The RC kit may have been given a different name, but I used to have the plans for the original control version over forty years ago. |
| Carl also flew this TORO flying lawnmower. He said it was very stable and his first flight went beautiful. On the second flight, he lost control of the elevator with predictable results. | ![]() |

John Zeigler's OV-10 was a
really neat model. He took off while I was flying one of my models and
lost it before I could land. I think he said he lost control of the
elevator. Too bad, John. It looked great!
In the back is Rusty Kennedy's Stream Acro Pro 180. |
| This is a great looking P-47. I didn't get the builder's name. I will be happy to list it here if you will contact me. | ![]() |

This Citabria could be mistaken for a real one if not for the fence behind it. Again, I don't have the builder's name. Sorry. |
| This AT-6 Texan looked great and was a large model. The Akro Pro behind it has an 84 inch span to give you an idea. Owner unknown. | ![]() |

Dave Hardy's model had a TV camera in the nose and transmitted back to a receiver on the ground. On the first flight the rudder was observed and the plane was landed immediately. There was some damage in the Stab and this was repaired. On the second flight, it fluttered again and this time control was lost. The model went into the brush. The camera view was taped and you could see the crash coming as the ground rushed up. Sorry about your plane, Dave, but that was neat! |
The condition of the field is improving constantly and I think everyone is enjoying the asphalt runway. If you haven't been to our field yet, come on out. New members are welcomed. If you are considering getting into RC flying, now is a good time. By the way, our instructors are very good and the flight training is free.
