Founder's Day 2004
11 September, 2004

The weather was just about perfect for the 2004 Founders Day and family picnic.  The day began with a short ceremony in remembrance of Carl Nettles.  President Owen Dwire presided over the ceremony which included the presentation to the membership of a Memorial Plaque to honor the memory of those members who have made their final flight.  Brian Foveaux performed the traditional memorial fly-by and Owen left us all with the challenge for each of us to put forth the effort to leave the club a little better than when they joined.   This was Carl’s legacy.

Don Kohlman did a fine job as the Master of Ceremony orchestrating the demonstration flights.  Of particular interest was the foamy combat demo.  Several heats were flown resulting in no fewer than 6 destroyed/severely damaged foamy aircraft!  Phil Goodwin and Owen Dwire cooked up a storm and managed to sell every hamburger/cheeseburger they had and almost every hotdog.

The following photos were taken by club members Peter Dixon, Jeff Detloff and Joe Lupton.

NNPRCC President Owen Dwire opens opens the activities with the presentation of the
plaque honoring our members who have made their final flight.

The first name on the plaque honors Carl Nettles, with whom we all shared a love of flying
and his friendship. The plaque reads:

"Gone but not forgotten....
Dedicated to the memory of our
fellow aero modelers, we humbly
offer our thanks and prayers.
God Speed..."

Past President Jen Jennings offers his memories of working with Carl to help
make our club and flying field much better than he found it. He was always
involved in whatever was going on.

Club members and guests listen as Owen talks about his memories of Carl.

Bryan Foveaux did a memorial flight with a slow roll in Carl's honor to open the event.

Joe Lupton did a demo flight with his unique flying witch, Broomhilda.

David Hardy flew his camera plane. The small pod on top of the wing contains a TV
Camera which transmits back to a receiver and TV monitor on the field. Everyone
enjoyed the view of our field from the plane in flight.

Larry Rash has been helping Joyce Nettles sell Carl's models. These are all for sell except the flying lawn mower.
If you see one you like, contact Larry.

Julian Harris flew this nice looking P-40 Warhawk. Looks real, doesn't it?

We had a very good turnout for this year's Founder's Day.

The lunch tent did a very good business! The Chief Cook did a super job as a short order cook!

Our only problem remains  to be parking. We are working on this, however, and hope to have it fixed by nest year.
