PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
What a great year 2003 has been for our club! We have made major improvements to our field, hosted many events/contests, seen many new and interesting aircraft fly and welcomed new friends to our club. I look forward to 2004 and the promise of new challenges and exciting activities the coming year will bring.
We will have two new club officers helping to lead the charge in 2004. Phil Greasley and Jay Taylor were elected to serve as vice president and secretary respectively. I extend my congratulations to Phil and Jay and look forward to working with them.
It has been a pleasure working with Joe Lupton and John Philbrick over the past year. They both are fine gentlemen as well as outstanding model builders and aviators. I would like to thank Joe and John for the loyalty, dedication and leadership they showed while serving as club officers. They set a fine example for all who follow in their path.
Our news letter editor, Chuck Swiger, will be leaving us for he has found a new job in the west. West Virginia to be specific. We will all miss Chuck and his squadron of small aircraft buzzing around the field. Thanks for all your help Chuck!
The last formal event for our club will be the Christmas Party on 6 Dec. This event will take the place of our normal December meeting. A lot of work has gone into making this another fine event. In addition to the fine food the Country Grill is famous for providing, there will be much frivolity, gift giving, and good fellowship. I hope to see you there.

Farewell –by- Chuck Swiger, editor
Two years ago I decided to get more sunshine and fresh air, and bring back an old interest in model airplanes that goes back to the early 70’s, when the family would take trips to Charleston WV. One of the highlights of those trips was visiting the Fountain Hobby Center. Believe it or not, Fountain is still in operation and now I’ll be near it again. NNPRCC has been a great experience, from the GWS Stick to the ME-109. I’ll be reading the web page.
Chuck, You did a fine job! It was always on time and well done! Also it was very easy to put online in the format you used. Thanks for a job well done! (webmaster).

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
I would like to thank everyone who helped with the latest project at the field. The concrete pads added greatly to our flying field. We will especially appreciate the pads next spring during our rainy season. Our next task will be to do a little landscaping to repair the ruts left by the concrete truck.
Formal events at our flying field are quickly nearing the end for 2003. The last event scheduled for 2003 is the interclub fun fly competition on Nov 9th at 2:00PM. Dave Fisk, Dave Keadle, and Fred Murphy will carry the NNPRCC flag and represent us at the competition. I encourage everyone to come out and cheer them. Good luck guys!!
Please remember to make it to our November general membership meeting. This will be our last formal meeting for 2003. We will elect officers for 2004 as well as approve the 2004 budget. Like everything else in this world, if you choose not to participate in these events, you have no basis for complaining about the direction of the club’s activities.
See you at the field!

Treasurer’s Report – Pete Dixon We have 133 members including 18 family and 4 non- flying. We have about $3217 in the checking account. The grass cutting budget is $285 over spent, with two months + to go in the year.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
·
Parks Report – Ranger Jeff. His report was passed to Owen. The Pavilion is still on the list but it will take a while before it is built, and certainly won’t be built this year. A new card has been developed, to be available in November, presuming that you already have your new AMA card.. Orange cards will be used for beginners. Members must renew by the end of the year to be able to fly at the beginning of January.·
Field Maintenance/Improvements – Ken Combs / Carl Nettles / Pete Dixon. Pete has donated some fertilizer for the grass. The new field improvements- new flying stations- were installed in October by a work party. Participants should fill out volunteer time sheets. Volunteers are wanted to build additional wooden starting stations, to give us six out front plus one in the run-up area. A next step will be to terrace the starting platforms so that there isn’t an abrupt drop off at the edge.Flight Training – Don Kohlman. Fred reported on training. He plans to post records next year on new members, to help them progress. It is suggested that those wanting instruction should contact one of the flight instructors and arrange a time to meet at the field for training.
Field Safety – Tony Gorgone / Don Kohlman / Ray Foley. No report.
OLD BUSINESS:
Club Trailer – Carl
o
The Trailer has been sold and the money has been turned into the treasurer.·
Club Patch/Emblem – Owen Patches are in hand.o

There were 6 volunteers at the October 4 session, setting things up. 15- 20 people showed up for the October 11 work session. The truck was able to back up to the sites, leaving ruts in the preparation area but greatly speeding the work.·
SPA Contest (28 Sep) – Richard Witt, Jay Jennings The contest took place on the 28th, one weekend after the Hurricane! It was quite successful.·
Inter Club Fun Fly (5 Oct) – Owen NN came in first, with all three of our representatives flying Owen’s Ultrastick.NEW BUSINESS:

Turkey Fun Fly (26 Oct) – Frank Orris. This will be a charity event. Attendees (flying or non- flying) should bring a food item. The club will then purchase a turkey to be donated to a needy family. Events will be bomb drop, loops in a minute, and timed flight- ratio of powered time to altitude to glide time. Contest will start around 1 PM.·
Inter Club Fun Fly (9 Nov) – Owen This event will take place at our field. Jay Jennings, Dave Fisk, and Dave Keadle will be our contestants.·
Slate of Officers for 2004 – Owen / Phil The following slate was nominated and approved for a vote next meeting.o
President: Owen Dwireo
Vice President: Joe Lupton, Phil Greasleyo
Secretary: : Jay Tayloro
Treasurer: Peter Dixon·
Grass Cutting Fees – Owen Since we are in arrears this year, we will have to increase the fee next year. We’ve also increased the size of the area being mowed, resulting in a cost of $85 per time. It is estimated that we’ll need $30 per member to cover the grass cutting.·
2004 Budget – Owen / Pete. A budget was presented. It was based on 110 members, and $15/ person dues to the club. It assumed 7 contests plus Founders Day and the Christmas Party. There was some discussion about no longer mailing the news letter, but leaving copies at the hobby shops, the field, and perhaps bring some to the club meeting. Budget will be voted on at the November meeting.·
Club Sponsored Pavilion – Owen. The club could build a pavilion at the field to provide more protection from the sun. A 40’ x 14’ pavilion would cost us $5K. This could cost $50 per person. Alternatively, we could attempt to raise funds in some fashion.·
Christmas Party (6 Dec) – Rusty / Phil County Grill, 6 PM.·
Model of the month – Phil Greasleyo
Bob Peters showed his Eagle 150, modeled after a home built shown at the Oshkosh EA show. It was designed by a friend of Burt Rutan. He created a foam mold, wrapped it in wax paper, and then double planked it with 1/16" balsa. It has a 46 fx, weighs about 8.5 lbs. It was a very impressive plane.o
Joe Lupton showed off his flying witch. He got it as a kit on E-Bay. The body of the figure was laser cut out of cor-foam. The "broom" is a cardboard tube. Joe added the hair. Wings are a made from a kite. It is a three channel plane. Joe used epoxy paint. It was hard to get it off the ground, but hand- launched well. It’s powered by a OS 61fx. The legs come down when it is flying, then pivot back on landing. It has been quite a hit when flown.o
Pete Dixon showed a gas engine with a custom muffler for a huge Spitfire. The muffler mimics the 6 per side openings. It will have a 110" wing span.ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 8:50.

Model Of The Month For October (Kit Category)
October's club meeting resulted in a very appropriate winner on the Kit
Category for Model of the Month. Mr. Joe Lupton Showed off his flying
witch which was surprisingly simple in its construction, but as usual, Joe had
put a very realistic finish on it. The witch's broom was made of a laser
cut cardboard tube that acted as the main support for the Coraplast laser cut
body of the witch. The body was reinforced with light ply and the wing
was made basically of a nylon kite that looked surprisingly like the witch's
cape. Joe incorporated three channels ( Throttle, elevator, and rudder)
into this extraordinary kit, painted the witch's detail with epoxy paint,
mounted a OS .60FX on her and just as a touch of detail, installed some
scraggly looking hair that blows in the breeze during flight. Speaking
of flight, Joe says he has attempted to take the witch off from the ground on
several occasions with no success. However, hand launching is another
matter and Joe has flown the witch several times successfully. All the
club members who have witnessed the witch fly say that it flies well and looks
very good. I'm not sure this one will make the cut at the next jet rally
Joe, but the rest of us want to see it fly, especially since Halloween is upon
us.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Some of you may be familiar with the Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times. Well hurricane Isabel sure made for an interesting September! I hope everyone made it through the storm with their family, home, and model airplanes intact. Most of us are still involved in taking stock and cleaning up and have not had a chance to play at our hobby. I am looking forward to things getting back to normal for the rest of the 2003.
Our flying field made it through the storm virtually unscathed. We did lose our two remaining flag poles. Obviously Founder’s Day had to be canceled and we do not have a rescheduled date yet. We will look at possible reschedule dates during the October meeting. There were enough individuals interested in flying on the 28th to hold the SPA contest. Many thanks to Richard Witt for putting on a fine contest.
As you all know, on 11 October we are planning on putting down concrete pads for the starting benches and the two new flying stations. This is going to be a major project which will require many hands to successfully accomplish. Please contact me if you think you would like to volunteer your time and talents to making this a successful project.
See you at the field!

here has been a ton of things going on at our flying field. Those of us that have participated in the many varied events have had a grand time! If you haven’t found the time to come to the field for the scheduled events, I encourage you to attend even if as a spectator. We had a great turn out for the first annual IMAC pattern contest on 24 August. The parking lot was packed and there were 9 intrepid fliers competing. All of the fliers chose to participate in the Basic pattern and the competition was hot and heavy – unlike the weather which was mild with a light breeze. Jay Jennings did a super job running the contest and keeping everything on track. We also had a number of volunteers from judges to runners to concessions workers. My hat is off to all of you for a job well done.
Speaking of hats we should have samples of new hats (with our new club emblem) for display at the September meeting. We will also have the new patch for display and sale.
Please remember we will be holding our annual Founder’s Day event at the club field on 20 September. Joe Lupton is the program director for this event and will be looking for volunteers to help out.
Our next flying competition at the field will be the on 28 Sept. Our club will host a Senior Pattern Association (SPA) contest for Novice and Sportsman categories. Richard Witt is the Contest/Program Director for this event and has been working on getting everything organized. I am sure he could use an extra hand so if you can spare some of your time and talents please contact Richard.
As you all know, this fall (11 October) we are planning on putting down concrete pads for the starting benches and the two new flying stations. This is going to be a major project which will require many hands to successfully accomplish. We will be going over the final details of the work required at our September meeting.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
7:00 P.M. Monday, August 18, 2003
President Owen Dwire called the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m. The meeting was opened a few minutes early due to pending inclement weather, which fortunately never materialized. There were approximately 30 in attendance, including three guests.
There were 3 new members – Steven Cordero, Dave Craft, and Jerry Winkler. Prospective new member, Shawn Coleman, was also present.
Minutes from the previous meeting, held on July 21, 2003, were approved as published on the web and in the newsletter.
The treasurer’s report was given by Pete Dixon. He stated that there was a balance of $3,240 and that most of the recent improvements had been paid from the excess left from last year’s budget.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Parks Report – Ranger Jeff Rice:
Porta Potty. The company that is supposed to do the maintenance has been called to come and service it.
Outside Gate. – The lock on the outside gate has the same combination as the one on the inner gate of the road leading to the flying field. In the event that the gate is locked, we do not have to wait for a Ranger to open it. We can open it ourselves if we arrive before them.
Fencing. There is 150 ft. of fencing in the shed.
Water Truck. The park has a water truck that should be available for us to use when we pour the concrete pads. It has a capacity of several thousand gallons, although we don’t need that much. Ranger Rice will check on the availability.
Pavilion. Ranger Rice has had conversations with the construction company front office on several occasions trying to get an estimate. They have not returned his calls. He may have to go to another company for a new estimate before it can be submitted for approval.
Field Maintenance – No report was given although there was some discussion stating recent improvements to the field.
Flight Training – Tony Gorgone stated that training was proceeding as required.
Field Safety – Tony Gorgone stated that all hand starting is being done using heavy leather gloves as required.
OLD BUSINESS:
Club Trailer – The trailer might be purchased by Dave Hardy.
NEW BUSINESS:
Club Patches – Owen Dwire discussed the new club hats that are on order. The hats should cost approximately $12.00 each. Since the club sponsored the initial investment required, we expect to make approximately $2.00 profit on each hat.
IMAC Pattern Meet – The meet is scheduled for Sunday, August 24, 2003. Jay Jennings says that he has 2 judges so far. He needs more volunteers to help with the meet. Registration is at 10:00 a.m. and competition starts at 11:00 a.m. There will be 2 different patterns flown. Novice Class participants are allowed to fly any type of aircraft. Sportsman Class participants must fly a scale aerobatic type aircraft.
Club Awards – Bill Crahen received a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his participation in helping with the concession at the last meet. Bill also received his Solo Flight Certificate in recognition of his first solo.
- John White received a Certificate of Appreciation for his work as the Mall Show Director.
Upcoming Events – The Founder’s Day event will be held on September 20, 2003. Joe Lupton will be in charge. Also discussed was the Senior Pattern Association (SPA) Contest to be held on September 28, 2003. Richard Witt will be in charge.
Concrete Pads – Plans are to construct 6 concrete pads, 5’ x 10’ x 3 ½" to support the aircraft starting stands. Discussions followed concerning the requirements for the work to be done. The forms for the pads will need to be constructed and in place prior to the day the concrete is to be poured.
Six (6) construction type wheelbarrows are needed and 12 people will be needed to transport concrete from the concrete truck to each pad location. Individuals will be needed to screed the concrete and trowel as necessary. 7Plans are for a workday on Saturday, October 11, 2003 with a weather backup day of October 18.
Owen Dwire has a list for volunteers to sign up. The work cannot be accomplished by just by a few individuals. Help is needed to perform the several required tasks. If we do not get the required volunteer commitments prior to 3 Sep we will not be able to proceed with the project. The current plan calls for constructing the forms on 6 Sep with the actual concrete work on 11 Oct. A weather decision will be made on Wednesday, October 8, on whether to proceed on the 11th or defer to the 18th.
Water will be required for cleanup of wheelbarrows and tools after pouring and spreading the concrete. Bill Crahen stated that he had a 55 gal. plastic barrel that could be used if required, but Ranger Rice stated that he should be able to provide a water truck used by the Newport News Park. We will wait to see if the truck will be made available.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:17 p.m.
Minutes prepared by Jay Taylor.
MODEL OF THE MONTH
Pete Dixon won the Kit Category of the Model of the Month with his absolutely
superb Balsa USA Sopwith Pup. This huge model carries a 5 cylinder Saito
3.25 engine neatly covered by an aluminum radial cowl. The model
sports functional flying wires and a scale cockpit and pilot that Pete had to
assemble separately. There is enough latex paint to cover a good-sized
house on the aircraft and a scratch built Vickers machine gun. Pete
guesses he has 300 to 400 hours of construction time invested and the aircraft
sure shows it. What a piece of work. Nice going Pete.
Phil Greasley’s F-6F Hellcat ARF won the ARF Category for the month of
August. This 70wingspan model comes with a fiberglass fuselage and cowl,
built up balsa wings, and it is covered in Solartex. Phil traded out the
fixed landing gear for some Robart 100 degree rotating air driven gear using
scale sized wheels and tires to boot. All this was accomplished after he
bored out the wing just outside the root for the wheels to retract into.
Phil also changed the paintjob on the model to make it a bit more scale.
He repainted the underside gray color a flat white and added medium sea blue
along the side of the fuselage to replicate the war colors the actual hellcats
wore throughout the war with Japan. The Hellcat has a Saito 150 for power
and weighs in at 12lbs, 8 oz. It has yet to get airborne but Phil expects
to remedy that soon.

The Eastern Virginia Fun-Scale Championship was held on 12 July. It was a beautiful day for flying R/C airplanes. Joe Lupton did a fine job setting up and directing the contest. First place was taken by Owen Dwire, second by Fred Jones, and third by Don Kohlman. The competition between 2nd and 3rd place was very close and only decided after the 4th and final round.
Our next flying competition at the field will be the on 24 Aug. This competition will be the first of what I hope will be an annual event. We will be flying both the Basic and Sportsman IMAC Patterns. Contestants can enter any type of aircraft for the Basic Pattern while a ¼ scale or larger aerobatic aircraft is required for the Sportsman Pattern. Jay Jennings is the Contest/Program Director for this event and has been working on getting everything organized. News Flash: Model Airplane Crosses
Atlantic OceanThis Just In – On Aug 10 at 1508 UTC TAM-5 (Trans Atlantic Model) landed in Ireland after a trip of 903 miles from Newfoundland. From their web site FAQ
(
http://tam.plannet21.com/FAQs.htm)"TAM models all weigh less than 5 kg (11 lbs), including fuel, to meet FAI requirements for an aeromodel. The wingspan is 1.83 meters (72 inches). The fuselage is 1.8 meters (71 inches) long. Balsa wood and mylar film (Monocote©) are the principal materials, with cyanoacrylate glue used to harden and connect much of the structure. Carbon fiber, fiberglass, and epoxy are used in areas requiring extra strength. Careful attention to design allows the components to be very light with adequate strength." See above link for a picture and more details. One unusual feature is the fuel: "The fuel is Coleman stove/lantern fuel, with a special additive for lubrication. This fuel has a high energy content, is very reliable, and burns clean."

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
This summer is shaping up to be a busy one for our club. We have already held the Old Time AMA A – Pattern contest and conducted ourselves admirably at the Patrick Henry Mall show. There are more events scheduled and I encourage everyone to get involved.
The A – Pattern contest held on 22 Jun was perhaps the best run contest I have witnessed at our field. My hat is off to Jay Jennings for running a top-notch contest. Jay ensured there were none of the usual delays between fliers and kept things running very smoothly. If you chose not to be there, it is your loss as you missed great event. I would like to acknowledge Mr. Richard Witt who took home the first place trophy.
Our next flying competition at the field will be the on 12 Jul. This competition is an annual repeat of our Eastern Virginia Fun-Scale Championship. The contest will be open to Juniors and Seniors and will also feature Division I and Division II competitions. Division I is for folks who have never competed in a scale meet before and Division II is for the old hats at this stuff. The maneuvers are relatively simple and I encourage all of you to give it a try. Primarily you are trying to make your aircraft fly as realistically as possible. Joe Lupton is the Contest/Program Director for this event and has been working on getting everything organized. I am sure he could use an extra hand so if you can spare some of your time and talents please contact Joe.
See you at the field!

After Thoughts: Doing Research on the web
Or
Google.com is your friend
A few days ago while visiting family my father mentioned his cousin Jim Swiger had "Joined the RAF" in 1942, and that his middle name was pronounced ‘Rymer’. I was amazed they never said anything about it before. Wanting to find out more I used google.com to search for "swiger raf" and 4th from the top was a page about the 31st Fighter Group, 309 squadron, saying that Lt. Swiger "destroyed an ME-109". Checking further into
31stfightergroup.com turned up a list of officers and I delighted to find "Swiger, James R" as a 1st Lt. They shipped out to England in June 1942 and operated under RAF control. I haven’t verified that actually is cousin Jim yet, but so far it matches up. If so he would have been flying a Spitfire (the P-51 Mustangs came later). I can remember as a kid, visiting with family while he was in the hospital, seeing some model airplanes in the garage. Were he still alive I would love to tell him, "Jim, I’ve destroyed a couple of ME-109’s too". Two this year. The 3rd one awaits cooler, calm weather to try out, a Model Tech .25 size ARF that’s quite affordable. Just google for "model tech me-109".

PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
Now that the days are getting longer, I would like to continue the practice of holding our general membership meetings at the flying field during the summer months. Thus, weather permitting, we will conduct our next three meetings at the flying field. In the event of inclement weather, we will meet at Newport News HQ as usual.
Newport
News Park R/C Club
The
minutes from previous membership meeting – 21 April- were approved as written.
There
was one new member- Rich Payne, eager to join the club.
Treasurer’s
Report was omitted, in the absence of the treasurer.
COMMITTEE
REPORTS:
·
Parks Report – Ranger
Jeff
o
Pavilion.
Jeff is still waiting a formal estimate.
Rough estimates are $4800- $6000, plus costs for a concrete base.
o
Road Grading.
Jeff has a commitment to get gravel placed on the road and to have the
road regarded.
o
External gate.
The external gate has been locked a little early on occasion.
Jeff will look into adding a combination lock so that we’ll still
have access.
·
Field Maintenance –
Ken Combs / Carl Nettles / Pete Dixon
o
Ken and Pete worked on
the field with a tractor, addressing the overfly and the portion on the far
side of the runway. The infield
has been expanded a little. The
new portion of the infield isn’t ready for use.
·
Flight Training – Don
Kohlman. Little to report, due to
poor weather.
·
Field Safety – Tony
Gorgone / Don Kohlman / Ray Foley.
·
Hand starting should be
done with heavy leather gloves or with a chicken stick.
·
If a safety officer, or
other club member, finds that a club member is flying or operating their
equipment in a manner that puts others at risk, the unsafe individual should
be asked to stop. If they
persist, in extreme cases, the park rangers may be called in to assist in
enforcement.
OLD
BUSINESS:
·
Club Trailer – Carl.
Still needs some work.
·
PB&J Fun Fly (May
18th) - Rusty Kennedy. This
was postponed due to bad weather. The
Club will attempt to run it on June 1. Owen and Don will run it if Rusty cannot.
·
Interclub Fun Fly –
Owen / Tony / Fred. Our team had
a good time, but CVA won. The
next contest will be July 13. First
time participants get a 50 point bonus.
NEW
BUSINESS:
·
Club Awards – Owen.
Ed Silvers was recognized for his first solo flight.
·
Club Patch/Emblem –
Designs for new emblems were shown.
The club voted in favor of a design by Owen.
They will be made available as patches, decals, on hats, and in the
form of graphic files on the web page.
·
Domain Name - Joe
Lupton. There was some discussion
about setting up a club domain name, to make it easier for people to find us.
The proposal was tabled for lack of information.
·
Inter Council Meeting
– Rusty / Eddie Israel. Eddie
reported on the most recent meeting. Participants in the contests must specify the plane they will
use for the full day’s contest.
·
Old Time A-Pattern
Contest (Jun 22) – Jay Jennings. Sheets describing the event were passed out.
Manuevers will be as shown, except the three turn spin will not be
included.
·
Mall Show (28 – 29
Jun) – John White. Many people
have already signed up. We’ll
be building a Sig Seniorita.
·
Fun Scale Meet (12 Jul)
– Joe Lupton. Five points will
be awarded for a plane documented with a photograph.
There will be several required maneuvers, plus some optional maneuvers
dependent upon the type of plane. Flight
realism will be most important.
·
Model
of the month – Phil Greasley
o
Owen Dwire.
He brought in a biplane that he’d purchased.
It’s powered by an OS .46. It
weights 5.5 lbs. He had to adjust
the cabanes to provide the usual -1 degree incidence on the top wing.
It’s covered with Coverite. He
is using Futaba electronics.
o
Joe Lupton.
He showed off his “phoenix”, a ducted fan jet.
It was originally a Bob Violett kit.
The original fuselage was broken twice- once after a crash that
occurred on a landing, the second after it crashed
when the electronic went haywire.
A new fuselage was obtained from the manufacturer, and was cut and
spliced into the old tail. That
was a very tricky operation. It
weighs 14 lbs, and is powered by a .91 ducted fan.
It’ll travel 150 mph. The
electronics enables him to control gear, mixture, brakes and flaps, as well as
all of the normal controls. It’s
finished with Hobbypoxy paint.
o
Carl Nettles.
He brought in a Zagi fixx, electric powered.
It is a three channel, flying wing.
Carl has it powered by a 370 mAH, 8 cell, battery, from which he’ll
get about 5 minutes of flight.
o
Owen’s plane won as
the ARF entry; Joe’s as the kit.
·
The meeting was
adjourned at 8:45 PM.
Respectfully
submitted,
John
W. Philbrick
Club
Secretary.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
With coming of the nicer weather I have seen a lot more of our members flying at the field. I enjoy seeing all those winter projects taking to the sky. There have been many beautiful aircraft zipping around the field.
Now that folks are flying at the field on a regular basis, I would like to encourage everyone to dust off their copies of the Pilot Accomplishment Program (you can get another copy on our web site) and give the maneuvers a try. I think you will find it a rewarding experience mastering the various maneuvers/levels and it will make you a better pilot to boot!
Our next flying competition at the field will be the PB&J Fun Fly on 18 May. This is a charity event we are holding to help support the York County Food Closet provide food to local families in need. Rusty Kennedy is putting together some interesting and fun events for us. These low-pressure fun fly events have attracted many of our members in the past and I expect to see a good turn out for this one as well. Even if you don’t intend to fly, your donations will be gratefully accepted.
See you at the field!

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES
7:00 P.M. Monday, 21 April 2003
President Owen Dwire called the meeting to order at 7:06 PM
Approval of minutes from previous membership meeting – 17 Mar – Owen
Recognize new members/guests - Owen There were 30 in attendance, including two guests plus a contingent from NASA headed by Butch Watkins.
Treasurer’s Report – Pete Dixon 104 members, 95 flying. Checking balance: 6023.33 about $2000 of which will go to pay the City. See details elsewhere in the newsletter.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
·
Parks Report – Ranger Jeffo
Pavilion. This is waiting for better weather.o
Road Grading Jeff intends to have the road graded, once the land dries out a bit.o
Volunteer forms. Jeff provided forms to be used when members have worked at the field. This includes flight instruction.·
Field Maintenance – Ken Combs / Carl Nettles / Peteo
Field Maintenance Day. Proposed.o
Ken has a drawing showing the layout for the field. This would add two more pilot blocks to the Richneck Road end of the field. The infield would be extended by 75’ in the same direction. This would add two flying stations to the Richneck side of center of the paved runway. Hopefully the runway would be broadened. Currently there is about 20’ on the far side of the paved runway. It would be attractive to increase that to a total of 50’. Such an increase would require bringing in a bulldozer.Flight Training – Don Kohlman. There has been a good deal of training done over the past month.
Field Safety – Tony Gorgone / Don Kohlman / Ray Foley. Tony points out that people should fly the pattern- fly over the field against the wind, and with the wind on the far side of the field. In a cross wind situation, then fliers should agree on which direction to fly, including take off and landing directions. If the wind changes and a pilot needs to land in a direction against the pattern being flown, the pilot should call his change.
Other issues: starting planes with bare hands; engines without spinners or safety nuts; starting benches not square to the runway. Note that a very large plane can move one of those benches, so pilots should stand behind the plane when revving the engine. Note that pilots should fly from the stand closest to the bench used to start the plane.
OLD BUSINESS:
Flight Instruction Program – Don, Owen
o
Pilot Check Out Program Owen has written a pilot checkout program. It will be posted on the web.. Fliers can download it.Leader Club – Joe Lupton
o
This club is now a Gold Leader Club! This is AMA recognition of the Club’s effort in the Community and for aero modeling.Club Trailer – Carl
Still needs work before it can be sold.
·
Mike Atkinson Memorial Fly-In – Owen, Tony Gorgone. The event was quite a success. Tony was assistant manager. Phil provided a fly by; Rusty and ___ did the cooking. It was very well appreciated by Mike’s family.NEW BUSINESS:
·
Club Awards – Owen Ed Silvers was recognized for being a judge at the March Frost Bite Fun Fly. Tony Gorgone was recognized for being the assistant director for the Mike Atkinson Fun Fly. Rusty Kennedy was acknowledged for his work as cook and concessions manger. Phil Greasley was recognized for his work as cook, both at the Mike Atkinson Fun Fly. Pete Dixon was recognized for his successful solo flight!·
Club Patch/Emblem – Owen So far there is one suggestion for a patch. There will be a vote on the candidates in May.·
Interclub Fun Fly – Tony/Owen Next one is May 4th at the Isle of Wight field. A third flier is needed, backing up Tony and Owen. Events include a bomb drop, called landing, spot landing.
·
PB&J Fun Fly (May 18th) - Rusty Kennedy This is a charity event for the York County food bank. There will be three events. 1) Make a PB sandwich, take off and land, in less than 3 minutes. The second event: with a cup containing peanuts on the plane, the pilot must take off, do three loops and land. Prize for the maximum number of peanuts left in the cup. Third event: build and fly an airplane, to be provided at the field. Minimum entrance fee: one jar of peanut butter, one jar of jam.·
Old Time A-Pattern Contest (Jun 22) – Jay Jennings. This has been registered with the AMA·
Mall Show – John White. This is scheduled for June 28/29. Members were asked to volunteer the planes or other exhibits they can bring, and the times they can work. Phil Greasley has volunteered to co- chair this event. A computer and flight simulator will be needed, too.·
Senior Pattern Association (SPA) Contest – Don Kohlman. This would involve flying planes flown prior to 1976. The pattern to be flown would be similar to the "A" pattern. For this event, later planes may be flown but will be penalized a specified number of points. Engines may be .60 two stroke or .90 four stroke. This has been proposed for the last weekend of September or the first weekend of October. This was approved by the Club, as an interclub event. We will do it for just a single, combined, age group, and a single skill group.·
Model of the month – Phil Greasley.o
Tony Gorgone showed a Great Planes Patty Wagstaff Extra, ¼ scale, ARF. It has Li Ion batteries to save weight. Tony made modifications in the stab construction, the servo construction. The plane came in about 15 lbs. It hovers nicely at about 1/3 to ¼ power.o
Fedrico showed his ARF- a Great Planes Lancair. He got it about a week before the meeting; flew it yesterday! Powered by a Saito .90. He put it together in well less than the 15 hours they suggested. Fedrico’s plane was named model of the month.·
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 PM.@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Butch Watkins was kind enough to bring his NASA research team to the meeting to fill club members in on their very interesting project. They brought along one of the tools they are using in their research, a Bob Violet Models Lockheed T-33, sporting an AMT 20# turbine engine. Thanks to Butch, Tommy Jordon, and Tom Strawn for including us in your project. Phil

Coloring R/C Aircraft – "Don’t Color Me Gone"
by Dr. Robert Suding
"To successfully fly an R/C aircraft, the pilot must have good orientation and distance perception. The human eye/brain estimates aircraft orientation based on the perceived position of the model's outer edges, and the relationship of these outer edges to the edges of any discernible trim markings on the plane's wings or fuselage. Distance perception, in turn, depends on a combination of one's perception of the aircraft's outside edges and its estimated orientation. "

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Our last meeting was a good one. I would like to thank Charlie Folwell for presenting valuable information to us on the care and feeding of the batteries we use in our aircraft. There is a lot happening with the club and our monthly meetings provide the forum for deciding on the club’s direction. We hope you’ll join us!
Many thanks to Pete Dixon for taking on the mowing contract for our field. Pete has gone beyond simply mowing the field and has already aerated the grassy area. We are looking to get some grass seed from the city of Newport News (through the park service) and plan on spreading it before the end of the month.
Those of you who have been to our flying field lately know that our facility is in need of some TLC. Carl Nettles and Ken Combs are developing a site plan for our field to provide direction and organize our efforts to improve the flying site. While this grand plan is in development, there is a need for us to all pitch in to do some maintenance at our field. To this end I am asking our membership to show up at our field on 29 March (30 March as a weather back-up day) for the purpose of doing some grounds maintenance. Some of the tasks we need to accomplish:
Dredge out drainage ditches to allow water to drain from the field.
Fill in potholes in access road.
Scrape, prime and paint the picnic tables.
Do some brush cutting.
Possibly smooth the area on the far side of the runway, if we can rent a tractor for this.
If you can possibly break away from your job and other domestic duties, I would greatly appreciate you showing up at the field on the 29th (we’ll start about 0900) armed with garden implements (to include wheel barrows if you have one). If gardening isn’t your style, there will be painting and general sprucing up chores as well. Please contact Carl or Ken if you will be able to help out in this endeavor.
The weather is about to break. Dust off your planes and check them over carefully. Be sure your batteries are ready and your new fuel in good supply. Our March 8th Fun Fly will kick off the 2003 flying season.
See you at the field!

$9564.70 income,
$3836.23 expenditures, for a net balance of $5850.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
·
Parks Report – Ranger Jeff:o
Pavilion. Jeff presented pictures of a 24’ shelter, with a 30’ shelter also being considered.o
Dirt. 2-3 loads of dirt are available.o
Scrub tree line. While it would be good for it to be cleared off by burning, as part of a training experience, budget cuts may mark this impossible. Alternatives of hand work by rangers and the club membership may be needed.o
Road. Gravel has been put on the road, but something heavier needs to be put in. Crushed concrete has been recommended.·
Field Maintenance – Ken Combs / Carl Nettles. Nothing to report. They were asked to prepare a plan for future improvements. Don Kohlman volunteered to help.Flight Training – Don Kohlman. A couple of new students were at the field at the last good flying Sunday. He was asked to update the instructor roster. Instructors will be asked to meet after the next (March) meeting to discuss plans and procedures.
Field Safety – Tony Gorgone / Don Kohlman / Ray Foley. Nothing to report.
OLD BUSINESS:
Pilot Checkout Program – Don Kohlman. Don has developed a checklist. It will be posted at the field and on the web site.
Leader Club – Joe Lupton. We may well meet the requirements for the Gold Leader Club. We have in hand a letter from the City, Superintendent of Parks, stating that the City has spent a good deal of money on the site, has been working on it for the past 10 years, and anticipates that the field will continue in use as an aero modeling field for the foreseeable future.
Club Trailer – Carl Nettles. The trailer has been titled in Carl’s name, and is being offered for sale.
Frost Bite Fun Fly – Don, Bill Crahen. March 8. Events will be similar to the past Fun Fly events with opportunities for everyone to participate.
Mike Atkinson Memorial Fly-In – Owen, Ron Smith, Tony Gorgone. Gina Atkinson has agreed to attend. Ron Smith has worked up a 10x12" bronze plaque, to be presented on April 6. This will cost the Club $192. It was moved, second, and passed to fund this plaque from the Treasury.
Grass Cutting – Owen, Pete. Pete Dixon and his son will take over cutting the grass on the field. It will be cut on Thursday, with possible fall back to a Friday AM depending upon the weather.
NEW BUSINESS:
·
Club Awards – Owen. Since the candidates were not present, awards were not passed out.·
Correspondence. We received a thank you note for the food donated at the Turkey Fun Fly. Riverside Hospice acknowledged our gift in memory of Mike Atkinson.·
AMA Safety Rules – Owen presented a summary of the AMA rules for RC flying. Max weight: 55 lbs at takeoff. 20 lbs or greater comes under a special set of rules. Model must have name, address, and AMA number of the pilot/ owner. Range check must be completed before first flight of a new or repaired model. FCC approved frequencies only. Any plane flown before an audience must have been test flown first. There are rules concerning takeoff, takeoff pattern, and training of pilot. Because of our proximity to the airport, we must fly below 400’. Pilots must not have consumed alcohol before or doing the flight time. Turbine powered models may be flown only by pilots having a turbine waiver in hand.·
Field Safety Rules – Don / Tony There was a brief discussion of field safety rules.·
Model of the month – Phil Greasley. Fred Jones showed his "Winglet", a 9 ½ lb flying wing. It is scratch built, based on plans. It has speed brakes, and is pusher configured. He covered it with Ultracote. Though the engine has been run in the plane, it has yet to be flown.·
Markings. Joe Lupton offered a demonstration of an approach to markings when decals are not available.
ADJOURNMENT
Program. Charlie Folwell made a presentation on care and feeding of batteries. He showed an Alpha 4 battery conditioning system. He advocates a "square" configuration, or one of two pairs in parallel, as opposed to the traditional four parallel to each other. NiCds can be discharged to deliver their capacity in an hour; NiMH should be pulled down over a 4 hour period. He recommends peak charging of NiCDs. NiMH’s will "peak" on a NiCD peak charger at about 75% of maximum, so may then be trickle charged to full capacity. Some commercial chargers will peak charge NiMH cells. Li cells put out 3.7 V. They have excellent capacity, but must be handled carefully so that they are not discharged below 3 V.
Respectfully submitted,
John W. Philbrick,

February 2003
Volume IX No 2
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
On top of the snow and cold weather, January carried with it some sad news to our club. On January 11th Mike Atkinson passed away. Our club made a memorial donation to the Riverside Hospice and we will host a Memorial Fly-In in memory of Mike on April 6th. Those of us lucky enough to have known Mike will long remember the commitment and dedication Mike had for the sport of R/C modeling and all the people in NNPRCC. Mike, you will be missed…
The New Year marks the time to renew your membership with the NNPRCC. As of 1 Feb there will be a new combination lock on the gate to the field. The combination to the lock will be provided with your 2003 membership cards. I would like to remind everyone that it is required to display your card somewhere on your upper torso when flying at our field.
During our January meeting we agreed to an ambitious event schedule for 2003. We will be firming up the dates for these events over the next several weeks. I would like to thank all those who volunteered to be event directors. Without people stepping forward to volunteer we simply wouldn’t be able to do these types of activities. I challenge each of us to find it within ourselves to donate a couple hours of our time this year in lending a hand at one or more of these activities. Please contact the individual directors and let them know you are willing to help.
The first month of 2003 has not been exactly conducive to flying our models at the field. While some of the more hardy souls in the club who are undaunted by the cold, wind and snow continue to fly as though it were 75o vice 15o, the rest of us have huddled in our shops, garages, basements, and/or spare bedrooms working on our latest creations. This was clearly evident at our last meeting for we had no less than 4 models vying for Model of the Month honors. I expect to see more models in February.
In addition to spending time building that dream ship, now is a good time to put in a little TLC on our proven fliers. To help us out in this endeavor I have invited Mr. Charlie Folwell to present a seminar on the care and feeding of the batteries we use in our aircraft. Charlie will make his presentation immediately following the business portion of our meeting on the 17th.
See you at the field!

2003 Budget – Pete (Owen/Joe): Owen presented the budget, as emailed to the Club Membership on January 9. The budget is based on 90 members, with the club already having more than that. The budget was moved, seconded, and approved unanimously.·
LaRC Group Membership – Owen: Langley Research wants to purchase memberships for five people. They will learn to fly conventional models at our field, with an ultimate objective of flying turbine powered equipment. The turbine powered planes will be flown elsewhere. They will train their own people, but will be following club rules as far as training and qualification. They will be AMA members.·
Club Trailer – Owen / Carl: Mr. Angers donated it to the club, but there is no real need for it. Therefore it will be titled in Carl’s name, and then sold. Any member desiring to purchase the trailer should contact Carl Nettles.·
Frequency Board. At the next meeting, we’ll discuss AMA safety rules, including pins identifying flier and frequency. These should be used on the frequency board, to identify who has permission to fly on each frequency. In addition, we will be required to wear our badges when flying at the field.·
Grass Cutting. The people who cut the grass last year do not want to do it again this year. We will be looking for someone to do the work.·
Model of the month – Phil Greasley: This year, we’ll continue the contest but will have two categories: ARFs and kit planes.o
Owen Dwire showed off his Cap 232 made by Hanger 9. It weighs 12 lbs. Owen installed dual elevator servos, and five other servos, all Futaba. It’s powered by an RCS 1.4, gas powered engine. The 14 oz tank will run the engine for 28 minutes.o
Red Covington showed his School boy, converted for micro electric equipment. It has GWS equipment, and a 5:1 geared motor. Landing gear is held on with Velcro.o
Joe Lupton brought his Mirage 2000. It’s built from a kit, using a fiberglass fuselage and foam wings. It’s powered by an OS 25 driving a ducted fan. He plans to launch it with bungee cords! He painted it with K&B epoxy paint airbrushed onto the plane.o
Phil Greasley showed his Great Planes RV 4. It’s covered with Monocote except for a painted cowl. Cowl and wheel pants are fiberglass from a specialty house. Powered by an OS .50o
The Club voted for Joe’s fan jet as the model of the month.ADJOURNMENT at 8:40.
**Following business meeting adjournment we had a seminar on detailing scale cockpits presented by Phil Greasley.**

ARF Catagory
President Owen Dwire and his Hanger 9 CAP. Powered by RCS 1.40 gas engine. Aircraft has not flown as yet.
Owen says he is waiting for near perfect weather to get the airplane airborne for the first time.
Good looking model of an ARF that has been discontinued. Good Luck Owen
Model Of The Month Kit Category
Club Vice President Joe Lupton and his Mirage Ducted Fan Jet. Joe purchased the fiberglass fuselage and foam wings for this project but had to supply all the rest (including lots of labor) himself. Kit uses a .25 size ducted fan engine and Joe predicts that he will need to get approximately 25000 revolutions per minute out of the power plant to ensure solid flight. The Mirage does not have landing gear and will be launched with large rubber chord held by two brave soles. The Paint job on this aircraft is something that Joe has wanted to do for several years and it turned out absolutely awesome. A truly fine model. Congratulations Joe.

THIS MONTH’S MESSAGE
I hope everyone had a GREAT time over the holidays and that Santa was able to satisfy some of your desires for new R/C trinkets.
A new year is upon us and as tradition would have it, it is time to remember the achievements of the past and dream of greater things for the future. I would like to thank Jay Jennings for his service as president and the many things he did for the club. It is my hope to continue the legacy he has established. We have seen a lot of improvements at the flying field and in the general well being of the club. My hat is off to you Jay for a job well done!
We had a grand finale for the end of 2002 at our annual Christmas bash. For those of you who weren’t able to make it, you missed a great event. The food was good and the camaraderie excellent. I encourage you to try to make time for this event next year. It is a great way to meet and chat with friends who we only see at the flying field.
I know each of you have ideas of where you think the club should go for the next year and I would like to encourage you to participate in this month’s meeting. This will ensure you have the opportunity to put your ideas forward and be in on the ground floor for planning the club activities for 2003. I will also be looking for volunteers who are willing to donate a small portion of their "hobby time" to making our club better. As you know there is never a shortage of ideas, only a shortage of people willing to volunteer their time and efforts to make things happen.
My number one priority is to make the meetings a bit more fun and educational. To this end I am planning on concluding the business part of our meetings promptly at 7:45. At the close of business, I am planning on having one of our members (or guest speakers) present a topic of R/C modeling interest. For January, Phil Greasley has volunteered to tell us how he details scale cockpits.
See you at the field!
Owen Dwire
NEXT MEETING: 7 pm JANUARY 20, 2003

Hi-Lites
NNPRCC Meeting, December 16, 2002
We did not hold our usual business meeting in December. Instead we had our Christmas meeting at Bill's Seafood on Denbigh Blvd. This was the second year for this Christmas get together/dinner/meeting and like last year, we all had a great time! We ordered off of the menu and I think everyone enjoyed a great seafood dinner. We did not have quite as big a turnout this year, and if you did not come, it was your loss.
Carl Nettles did a great job with the door prizes, as everyone got one. We also had a gift exchange! Everyone was asked to bring an R/C related item worth about $5.00. I think most of us have enough glue and spinners for several airplanes.
During the dinner party the members present voted on the first annual Model of the Year award. To be eligible for this, a model first had to win Model of the Month at our monthly meetings. There were six models considered for this year’s award since the contest started in May. Phil Greasley had two monthly winners, and his Sea Fury took the first Model of the Year Award. He was presented with a $25.00 gift certificate from Stream Hobbies.
The annual Dirt Napper award was once again presented to the member who found the most unique way to crash a model. Owen Dwire presented the Dirt Napper certificate and Perpetual Plaque to Jay Jennings. Did you REALLY put the wing on backwards, Jay? Har-Har-Har!

Don Kohlman presented a Guardian Angel award to Tony Gorgone. He surely had a guardian angel on one flight this year. Tony did a flat spin all the way to the ground......through a small hole in the trees and into a large puddle. All without damaging his model. After drying it out, he cranked it back up and flew again. He said the engine ran better than ever! Here he displays his "guardian angel". You better keep that with you at the field, Tony, least she takes offense at being left home, and who knows what could happen then..........

Our Head Park Ranger, Jon Gamache, was recognized for all of his assistance in making our club field the outstanding facility it is. He was presented with a plaque as well as honorary membership. Thanks for all you have done Jon!

As you can see the dinner meeting was a resounding success. I would like to thank all the members who volunteered their time and services to put together a wonderful Christmas dinner meeting for us.
Respectfully submitted,
Owen Dwire

Meeting of NNPR/CC
November 18, 2002
The meeting was called to order by President Jay Jennings at approximately 7:10 at the Park club house.
The meeting was opened with prayer by Eddie Israel.
There were 18 in attendance.
Pete Dixon provided a financial report, showing a balance of $4516.24.
The minutes were approved as published in the PropWash.
Park ranger Jeff Rice reported that he has proposed a design for a new shelter to be 18x24 in size. It will replace and expand the existing shelter, and will be located in approximately the position of the current shelter. It has been proposed to the City management. No word about burning off the hedge row or about getting additional dirt on the field.
Next month’s meeting will be at Bill’s Seafood Restaurant on Monday, December 16th. Jay Jennings, Joe Lupton, Owen Dwire, Don Kohlman, Ed Israel and Pete Dixon agreed to phone people to get commitments, as the restaurant wants a minimum of 25 people in order to reserve a private room. Door prizes and the "Dirt Napper" prize will be awarded. Model of the year will be voted on and awarded there.
A volunteer has been found to take over the Newsletter. He is willing to take over after the first of the year. A committee was formed (consisting of Jay Jennings and John Philbrick) to get a newsletter out in early December.
The "fun fly" planned for last weekend was cancelled due to rain. It will be held next Sunday, November 24.
Don Kohlman commented that some fliers, particularly the newer ones, are not following good safety procedures. These include failure to fly in the race track pattern, starting planes by hand flipping the prop with out even a glove for protection, and using engines without safety nuts or rounded spinners covering the prop end of the crankshaft.
In following up on an action item taken during October’s membership meeting, Owen Dwire proposed that the club have "published" flight check requirements to comply with the rules and bylaws as currently written. The rules currently state that new members be required to demonstrate knowledge of the field rules and pass a flying skills test prior to being considered "experienced fliers." It was proposed that the flying skills test consist of a left turning pattern and landing, a right turn pattern landing, and a dead stick landing. If wind strength/direction prohibits a safe landing from one direction or the other, then the "down wind" landing could be a low approach. All landings will be on the runway. Don Kohlman, chief flight instructor, took for action the task of printing and posting the details of the flight check requirements at the flying field.
Thus a new member to NNPRCC will be issued a Novice Pilot’s Permit/badge. Any club officer or club designated instructor witnessing the satisfactory demonstration of the above flight check requirements could sign off that the flier had demonstrated the required knowledge and skill. The sign off will be accomplished on the back of the Novice Pilot’s permit. The signed Novice Pilot Permit can be turned in to the treasurer who will then issue an Experienced Pilot Permit to the member. This process was moved, seconded, and approved.
Owen reported on the Pilot Accomplishment Program. Congratulations are in order for Tony Gorgone, Gary Barrett, and Larry Wall who achieved and were awarded Sport Flier level.
Eddie Israel pointed out the danger of prolonged time in the sun without protection such as sun screen, broad brimmed hats, or clothing. Prolonged, repeated exposure to the sun can lead to skin cancer, which can require surgery.
Elections. Owen Dwire, Pete Dixon, and John Philbrick were unopposed, and therefore were presumed elected by acclamation to positions of President, Treasurer and Secretary, respectively. In a very close vote, Joe Lupton was re- elected as VP.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00.
After the meeting, Owen Dwire showed his Ultra Stick. He pointed out several modifications he’d made to the stock kit. He replaced the engine mount with a Dave Brown mount. He removed the stickers, by pulling an edge until it was lying almost flat on the remaining portion of the sticker, and continuing to pull straight back away from the open edge. He then cleaned the glue that was left behind with turpentine followed by alcohol. He added his own decal "Got the T-Shirt" to the top of the wing. He also put a pattern on the bottom of the wing to enhance the visibility. The tail wheel is mounted on a bracket, rather than on the rudder. Before gluing the CA hinges in place, he marked a line on each side of each hinge with a fine line crayon. The glued hinges are then flexible, but strongly attached to the plane. He reinforced the landing gear block by supplementing the built in hardwood block with some five ply aircraft plywood on top of the block. It is also reinforced with some small triangle stock. The landing gear is fastened on with 10-32 nylon bolts. These will break off under stress, leaving the fuselage intact. The wing dowels were replaced with stronger ones, and the block into which the dowels go was reinforced. He used slightly lighter push rod wire to the tail, so that they would move more easily in the supplied tubes. He’s using an OS 50 with an 11-6 APC prop.
Respectfully submitted, John W. Philbrick, Secretary.

A big round of thanks goes out to Alice Munday for publishing the club newsletter, I’m sure we’ll miss her efforts, especially as I try to fill in. I was completely unaware that the hunt for a new editor was in progress when I mistakenly mentioned to our new president Owen Dwire that I was charged with the same job at the Petersburg Ft Lee club some 17 years ago. I didn’t do very well then, eventually letting it go for someone else to pick up but this time appreciate the opportunity to facilitate club communications. Being a relatively new member to the NNPRCC I don’t know many members and their activities and interests so will have to rely on others for input and articles until we get up to speed. I have seen some members interested in RC Combat, a very exciting area. We are always interested in construction projects and what you have going on the bench. A digital camera and email is about all you need to get a project featured in either the news or on a web site. Regular prints can be submitted as well and get scanned in.
Currently it’s usually cold and windy, but as spring quickly approaches I’ll be scrounging for gossip and photos of aircraft past, present and future. Personally I’ve many pleasant dreams of a Great Planes Corsair F4U kit covered in silkspan, but want to get a Messerschmitt Bf-109 going first!
See you next time –
Chuck
