Scout Day at NNPRCC

On October 29th, the club hosted members of Boy Scout Troop 123 from Yorktown, VA and helped them earn some of the requirements for their Aviation Merit Badge.  The events of the day included discussions on aerodynamics, airport procedures, aviation careers, and airmanship.  The capstone of the day was the opportunity for the scouts to pilot an R/C aircraft.  Each scout was able to make at least two flights and even the scout dads were able to fly with the aid of a buddy box.

The day was cold and blustery which made flying the high wing trainer type aircraft a bit challenging.  Even so, there were no accidents/incidents and great fun was had by all.  Many thanks to club members Owen Dwire, Phil Goodwin, Josh Hull, Bruce Thompson, John Philbrick and guest Bernie Urrutia who donated the use of their aircraft and their time to make this a successful day.

The following pictures encapsulate the days events:

Yes, it’s cold!!  We’ll all go sit in the cars after
 another 30 min of talking!
