Shelter Construction!!!
12-23-2006
Work has finally begun on the construction of our long awaited shelter! Early this month I received a call from Jay Jennings that a crew had shown up and the corners had been laid out and work had begun. When I went out there shortly thereafter, all I saw were four little flags.
About a week later I went out and the holes had been dug, stakes had been placed around the site, and the kit for the shelter had been delivered. Finally, it looked like something was going to happen.

This is what it looked like on 13
December.

Not much to look at, but it's a
beginning!

There are eight holes like this for
the post footings. They are over four feet deep,
and over half full of water!

The rebar has been formed to go in
the holes. This thing will not
go anywhere once it's built!

They are trying to pump out the water
so the rebar can be set in place....
You could actually see the water coming in from the sides of the hole!

There is a layer of stone in the
bottom of the hole, with a solid block on top of it.
The post will sit on the block and concrete will fill the hole.

I went to the field
on Christmas Eve to take a few photos and ran into Jay Jennings
who mentioned that he had taken some photos on the 21st. The following are
the
photos that Jay took.

Hmm. it looks like we missed a few days of work. the posts and basic
structure
are already up!

The boards across the top of the joist holds them in position until enough
roof
boards have been nailed down to hold them there.

It certainly appears to be well
constructed.

These are tongue and groove roof and
end boards.

The following photos were taken on Christmas Eve morning by Joe.

Half of the roof is sheeted, and part
of the other side.

That is a lot of gravel to be used as
a base. This should last forever!

I think it's looking pretty good! It
should not be long before we can start using it.

I just
received the following photos from Joe Mitchell who was at the field today.
I was at the field yesterday, and saw little change from the above photo
other
than the roof was completed. We are getting close to having a finished shelter!

Thanks for the great photos, Joe!
STAY TUNED .....................
