NNPRCC SWAP MEET
2006
11 February, 2006

Our second annual swap meet was a real fun morning. In spite of as very negative weather forecast, we had a pretty good turnout, although not quite as many showed up as last year.

We had a good response from our request for donations from the hobby manufacturers and distributors, as well as local hobby shops and businesses. Our club treasurer Peter Dixon also donated a nice ARF kit of the P-39 Aircobra that was a raffle prize. Our biggest donation came from a local individual, Mr. Bo Parker. He contacted me about a month prior to the meet and offered his entire shop full of models. He and his son used to be very active in RC up until about fifteen years ago, and his models were just collecting dust in the work shop. He donated four gliders, a very well built flight/tool box, a ready to fly 76" span J-3 Cub, a 90% finished giant scale Pica Cessna 182, another Pica Cessna 182 kit, never started, and a project: a Cessna O-2 Skymaster he had begun.

We decided the best way to use these items was to offer them to the highest bidder in a silent auction. The 182 kit was given as a raffle prize. The silent auction and raffle was a very big help to the club's proceeds for the event.  Many thanks to all of our sponsors!

Jerry Winkler and Owen Dwire handled the check-in and ticketing duties.
We had some nice items to hand-out from Debbie's RC World as
you can see on the table.

This was taken at about 0840 of some of the sellers and early arrivals.
The doors opened to buyers at nine AM.

Joe Lupton and Phil Greasley kept folks checking their blue tickets as door prizes
were given out about every ten or fifteen minutes. We had merchandise from
Stream Hobby Shop, Debbie's RC Hobby World, MGA Pilots, Micro Fasteners,
and many others to give away.. What fun!

Rusty Kennedy, owner of Stream Hobby Shop, and a Gold sponsor, had two
tables full of merchandise at very good prices.

Federico Jones was offering some nice items from his collection
 of engines, kits, and models.

Joe Lupton was even offering to sell off his girlfriend, Witch Hilga.
It looks like she will be be around for a few more flights over the park.

Karen Dixon once again did a great job with the coffee, donuts,
and homemade chili. Phil Goodwin sold the raffle tickets again.

The big winner of the silent auctions was this young man, Lyle Duncan.
He made off with this nice J-3Cub for only $90.00! It was very well built with a
fabric covering, and included an Enya .45 engine and the aileron servo.
Add a radio and a few servos and go fly.

The one area that fell short of last year's event was the Static Show. Last year
we had almost a dozen entries and awarded trophies in three categories.
This year there were only two models on display, both in Military  Scale.

This nice P-51 was entered by Julian Harris.

This is Bob Brown and his large B-17.

A team of impartial judges picked Bob's B-17 for the first place award,
and Julian's P-51 was given the second place award.

Newport News Park RC Club would like to thank York Awards for their very generous
donation of six plaques for the static show. The Best Civilian and Best Sport awards had no
entires. I certainly hope next year will bring out some of the fantastic models that I know are
built each year in the local area.
