NNPRCC
Field
workday 02-28-04

Our field just keeps getting better every year, thanks to
the work turned in
by our members. Today's goal was to fill up all of the ruts made by the
cement truck when we poured the concrete for our new starting pads.

We had enough fellows shoveling to keep several
wheelbarrows going as
well as two rigs like the one Phil Greasley is driving. We moved many
yards of
sand and topsoil.

First we filled the ruts with sand.

This was another area that had a lot of ruts.

Once we had the ruts filed with sand, we covered them with
topsoil. This
contained a lot of clumps, roots, etc, which had to be raked out and
smoothed over.

Peter Dixon is dragging the area with this
"sled" which really helped to
break up the clumps, as well as generally smooth out the areas we filled.

Here Owen Dwire is breaking up the clods in the topsoil.
When we had
finished preparing the new surface, we spread grass seed over the
entire
area. If we get the rain that is forecast later this week, with some
warm weather, we should have a nice grassy pit area this year.
If you
haven't volunteered to help out with a club function, I urge you to do so.
The
more help we get, the more we can get done. Also, it makes everyone else's
job that much easier. It's also nice to be able to look back and say
" I helped
to make this club better than it was!
