11.10.08 - We held our first Shoot for Food event as scheduled on 8 Nov and it was a huge success! For those that could not make it I’ll provide a recap of the days happenings but first I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks on behalf of the NNPRCC to the CVA club. Without their gracious support in letting us use their field, this event would not have happened. THANK YOU CVA!!!

Despite a somewhat damp beginning we had approximately 30 folks taking part in the event. Bruce Thompson shot some pictures during the day and they can be seen here:

Todd Smith, Phil Hailey, Phil Goodwin, Bruce Thompson and Owen Dwire along with Buck Morning and John Backes from the CVA club each flew target planes during the day. Also lending their support were Bill and Mason Sorrell - who doled out paint balls and collected the money, and Jerry Winkler who ran the firing line. Todd did a great job keeping the guns in firing order. The target pilots were kept quite busy repairing their planes so as to make their respective turns in the rotation.

We started about noon time and continued flying until almost 4:30 as we still had planes that could fly and folks who wanted to shoot. Participants shot almost 8,000 paint balls and by the end of the day the only planes left flying were Phil Hailey’s Mig-27 and Buck’s chloroplast plane. Phil’s Mig-27 absorbed an amazing amount of paint balls and still continued flying. I think if we had weighed the Mig before and after we would have found it had about 2 lbs of paint balls in it. The flying blimps (Thing 1 and Thing 2) were the most popular target planes as they were the easiest to hit.

All in all the day was a tremendous success. With the help of Todd Smith, Buck Morning, and Owen Dwire – who made additional donations, the club was able to give $250 to the York County Food Closet. The folks at the Food Closet were very thankful for our generous gift.

Cheers,

Owen
