East Beach Photography was established in 2008 by Lee Rosenberg as a full-service photography business covering Hampton Roads, Virginia (which includes Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Newport News, Hampton and Williamsburg).  Wedding and engagement session coverage extends west to Richmond and north to Yorktown, Gloucester and Mathews.

Photographic services include weddings and engagement sessions; individual, family and high school senior pictures; reunion and event coverage; sports photography; band and musician portfolios and commercial website images.

East Beach Photography is located in one of Virginia’s premier new urbanism communities.  Situated right on the Chesapeake Bay, East Beach with its pristine sand dunes, great water views and stands of old live oak trees is the perfect setting for photography.  No wonder many of Hampton Roads’ best wedding and high school senior portrait photographers come to East Beach for photo shoots!

Beyond Boobs!® is a breast health, not breast cancer, organization with a focus on health and wellness. (They have several chapters located in the Hampton Roads area.) They promote “breast health action” rather than “breast cancer awareness.”

Support Function

Under our mission to provide a support system for young women diagnosed with breast cancer before menopause, our goal is to love and support these young women back into health – body, mind and spirit. Cancer affects all three areas, and the effects can last long after the surgeries and treatments are over.

Education Function

Under our mission to provide breast health education for all, our goal is to offer a unique approach to inspire and encourage women, even young women, to take charge of their breast health and practice early detection techniques.

The breast cancer awareness campaign, which now owns the month of October, has brought much needed attention to the breast cancer crisis, but mere awareness is not enough.  Our focus is breast health action 12 months of the year so women go beyond awareness of breast cancer to actively practicing early detection techniques, our best weapon against this disease. We know that fear, denial, lack of knowledge and busyness are four roadblocks that keep women from practicing the life-saving early detection methods of monthly breast self-exams, annual mammograms (at least at 40 years old), and annual clinical exams. We combat these four roadblocks by providing breast health education through attention getting approaches such as:

I absolutely love working with the women of Beyond Boobs!. I have created everything from their logo to rack cards and everything in-between, including their ”Breast Health Manual Disguised as a Calendar; ‘A Calendar to Live By’. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I am choosing to highlight just the calendar. You can help support their mission by  purchasing a calendar here.

ABOUT THE CLIENT:

For three generations the Hornsby House has been a center of hospitality in Yorktown and has welcomed hundreds of visitors to the area.
The freshly renovated Hornsby House Inn bed and breakfast welcomes you to the heart of Yorktown.  Its five luxurious bedrooms feature private modern baths and many special amenities. Linger in one of the formal yet comfortable common areas, relax with a cool drink on the porch, or take just a few steps to walk the sands of  Yorktown Beach.  It’s a short, scenic drive to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, Jamestown, and more.

Raster artwork is created by using a raster-based software, such as Photoshop, which is composed of thousands of little pixels.  When we try to scale the logo to a larger size, those little pixels become big pixels, therefore resulting in a blurry image like the image on the left. Examples of raster image file types are: BMP, TIFF, GIF, and JPEG files.

Vector-based logos allow for the maximum range of usage because you can scale the size of vector files without loss of quality or sharpness. This means that the same logo file that looks great on a business card will also look great on a billboard. The bottom line is a vector logo will always look and work best and save you money in the long run.

Simple is always better
Overly complicated logos are usually difficult to grasp and understand and when shrunk down for use on a business card, it is practically illegible.

You do need to put a lot of complex thought into your logo behind the scenes, but you do not want the viewer to see that translated into excessive detail work, color, or font usage. It is best to communicate your company’s brand attributes with a clean, simple logo design.

Always consider your logo’s size and aspect ratio
As a rule, logos should be recognizable and readable at a quarter inch. At some point, most logos will need to be reproduced at a very small size, e.g. on a pen or key chain.  It is also best if your logo is not overly horizontal or vertical. Most logos will not be a perfect square, but a near 1:1 width to height ratio is ideal. A balanced mark is adaptable, making it easier to successfully place in a variety of layouts.

Hawks relishes the relationships with her clients and strives to make their businesses grow through good design and marketing.

Hawks also notes her company specializes in real estate services. Having worked as a marketing director for a new homes real estate company, she learned a great deal about marketing new home communities. “Whether a builder or real estate professional needs floor plans for marketing, site plans, or a website, we can do it, ” states Hawks.

But don’t be turned away thinking that’s all treyStone, INC. does. “Our roots are in graphic design – we LOVE to design everything and anything.” adds Hawks. Like projects for the non-profit group, beyond boobs!®, of which the majority of her services are offered ‘in-kind’.

A project very dear to treyStone, INC is BB’s educational and inspirational calendar; a Calendar to Live By®. treyStone INC. received the bronze award for Best Graphic Design from the Calendar Marketing Association 2011 National and World Calendar Awards in the Retail/Wall Calendar division. But it’s not about the recognition. Hawks’ notes that she loves working with the ladies of beyond boobs!® and has developed a friendship with many of the members.

In addition to her work with BB! she also works with the CE East Coast Surfing Championships by creating and maintaining their event website. In 2011 treystone, INC. teamed up with the Langley Air Show to provide design services for their event. Hawks looks forward to her continued work with these organizations as well as her dedicated clients.
